TOTW Phoenix dactylifera

The date palm is a flowering plant cultivated for its edible sweet fruits, dates, which begin to appear after 3 to 5 years. The date palm can grow singly or in clumps and is a slow grower, often taking 15 years before reaching 10 feet in height. The earliest findings of date palms were around 5000-6000 B.C. in Iran, Egypt, and Pakistan, but are found now all over the world. There are a whopping 91 date palms on campus alone.
