Wendy's Tree

Wendy Whitacre was a dear friend, colleague and administrator at CESL when she died in 2007. Several of her CESL colleagues gathered on a cold March day in 2012 to dedicate the tree in her memory. This Sandpaper tree- which we chose- is evergreen with leaves that have a velvet and fuzzy texture.  It is attractive to bees, butterflies and birds and it is drought tolerant. So- this is not only a living tribute to the memory of Wendy, her beautiful spirit of adventure and learning, but also part of an outdoor classroom for botany, desert ecosystems and landscape architecture courses. We look at this tree as a lasting memory to her life and know that its beauty and closeness to the CESL building are significant.
