TOTW Pyrus kawakamii

The evergreen pear is a member of the Rosaceae family. Despite the name, the fruits are not very palatable and this tree is primarily used as an ornamental. Native to China, this tree ranges anywhere from 20-50 ft in height and does require moderate watering. If you’re interested in growing this tree yourself, it likes well-drained soils, lots of light and water, and requires pruning to keep it from sprawling. If you’re more interested in just seeing this tree, be sure to look for one of the five here on campus.
