The Jacaranda tree has some serious star power. This sub-tropical tree is native to Central and South America, but is grown all over the world for its flashy, blue-purple flowers that can last for weeks. It also has large, bright green, compound leaves that give it an airy, delicate look. A member of the Bignoniaceae family, this tree grows quickly and can reach about 40 ft in height. Surprisingly, this tree is fairly drought tolerant, but does not do well with long freezes. This tree can be found on the southwest corner of the Main Library; be sure to check it out!
