TOTW Cercis canadensis

Cercis canadensis, commonly known as the Mexican redbud, is a small ornamental tree. Its natural range spans from New Mexico and Texas, down into northern Mexico. Unless trained otherwise, it is a multi-trunked tree with glossy, green leaves that are round and wavy along the margins, giving it an interesting textural appearance. However, the real attention grabber of this tree is the prolific production of pink flowers directly on its branches in early spring, before leaves have begun to develop. Also a drought tolerant tree, it is a great addition to any xeriscape lacking bright green foliage and flashy blooms.
