2023 - Desert Plant Conservatory Tours

Undergraduate student Lenny Sciulli, Class of 2024 (far left) developed an interactive tour of the Mark Dimmitt Desert Plant Conservatory. Lenny built on his previous role in the construction and development of the Desert Plant Conservatory, in which he collected weird plants, researched and described them on the Plant Science Club website and then designed/installed botanical signage linking (via QR code) to the species description pages. The current work developed a guided tour presenting content using "backwards design" and active learning strategies. After defining the key learning goals, he developed ineractive exercises around those goals. Lenny offered the tour to a series of 8 visitor groups in 2022 and repeated the tour again, in Fall of 2023 with the CALES Ambassadors. He has since trained a successor who will continue to offer tours of this "secret garden" on the roof of the 6th Street Parking Garage after Lenny graduates.
