Maria Antonieta Calderon
April 5,1949 - August 15, 2013
Maria Antonieta Calderon, known as Antonieta, was born in Guatemala on April 5,1949 and passed August 15, 2013. Her favorite things were gardens, angels, and family. She often spoke about her home in Guatemala and the beauty of that country. Although she grew up in an affluent family, the political climate changed and changed the course of her life. As she was in danger in her home country, she decided to migrate to the USA. Antonieta is remembered here for her kindness and work ethic where for many years she worked at the University of Arizona in Facilities Management. When Antonieta was strong and healthy it showed in her work. Everything she touched was more than just perfect. It showed pride in herself and in her work. She would often say that her friends would tell her that she gave too much and others were going to expect the same level of effort from them. She would say to them that she was proud and wanted to do the best job she could. Those who knew and cared for her, felt this woman would want to be celebrated in the courtyard of the Psychology building she tended, next to a flourishing plant. As this garden inspires you, so you may also be inspired to care for our campus the way Antonieta did!
