TOTW Robinia neomexicana

Robinia neomexicana, or New Mexico honey locust, is a small tree that thrives in the mountains of the Southwest. Its produces rose-pink, pea-like flowers that are protected with stiff stipular thorns on its stems. Because of its bright flowers, the tree can be used as an ornamental. Despite its beautiful flowers, the New Mexico honey locust’s vigorous root sprouting and thorny stems make its use as an ornamental fairly limited. However, the tree has a stunning ability to brighten any natural landscape where it’s found! There are 6 of these trees on campus.
