MEMORIAL TRIBUTE - Remembering Destiny Arambul

Destiny Arambul, an undergraduate student in Psychology at the University of Arizona from 2017-2020, volunteered with the Campus Arboretum as part of her commitment as a Dorrance Scholarship recipient. While the commitment to offer 20 hours of volunteer service, Destiny stayed on for the full semester and returned again the next. Initially, in Fall of 2018, she committed her volunteer hours to reserach plants in the arboretum collection that would later be published on the web. However, after fulfilling her obligation, she continued for the remainder of the semester, and again, on her own accord, returned to volunteer time in service to the arboretum through photography and creation of social media posts. That year seems short, but Destiny's personality, intelligence, compassion, and dedication filled every minute for me and for the arboretum student cohort she worked with. In early 2021, she passed unexpectedly. In addition to being a strong student, Destiny was a compassionate friend, an adventurer, traveller, activist and vivacious human who left everything in her wake better. After all these years since our regular interactions, her memory and the loss reverberate deeply. What a gift to have known such an incredible young person!

We wish to extend our compassion to the family of our dear friend and thank them for supporting her at the University of Arizona where she made such a difference in our lives.

It is our honor to assist the Dorrance Scholarship Program in recognizing Destiny with a memorial tree near the Psychology Building where she studied. We express gratitude for their program that connected us with Destiny, and for their on-going support for student interns with the Campus Arboretum program. Their support ensures students will continue to both impact the program, and expand their academic training at the University of Arizona.
