Graduate students: Half-time assistantship available with UA LEAF project for 2014-15 year
The Linking Edible Arizona Forests (LEAF) on the UA campus project is seeking an enthusiastic graduate student with great organizational skills for a half-time graduate assistantship for the 2014-15 academic year. The position requires the student to work 20 hours a week and includes a full tuition waiver.
The graduate student will provide primary leadership for the 2014 olive harvest (fall) and citrus harvests (spring), as well as related activities, including team meetings. The student will assist with product marketing the resulting olive oil in 2015 and develop a cost-benefit analysis to guide economic sustainability of future olive harvests. Three undergraduate interns will also be assisting with this project.
The LEAF on the UA Campus project involves a partnership between the Department of Soil, Water and Environmental Science, the Campus Arboretum, and the Iskashitaa Refugee Network. Other collaborators include Facilities Management, Dining Services, the University of Arizona BookStores, and Queen Creek Olive Mill.

Undergraduates: Get a job harvesting campus fruit trees with UA LEAF for the 2014-15 year
The Linking Edible Arizona Forests (LEAF) on the UA Campus is seeking two undergraduate interns to work third time on the project during the 2014-2015 academic year. The students will work about 13 hours a week each at a rate of $10/hour (roughly $500 per month) during the semesters.
The job will include interacting with other members of UA LEAF, a project supported by the UA Green Fund and managed in the Department of Soil, Water and Environmental Science, and the larger university and Tucson community. The interns will report to both Dr. Melanie Lenart of SWES and to Dr. Barbara Eiswerth, director of the Ishkashitaa Refugee Network.
The interns will help organize harvests and other activities; write about best practices for caring for, harvesting, and preserving edible products from trees; and regularly contribute to the LEAF website and social media presence. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated reporting and writing skills who have shown an interest in the local food and food forest movements, as well as students with technical skills and social media experience. Students who are strong in one or more of these areas should consider applying.
