Biosphere 2 Film and Panel Discussion

Saturday, October 12, 5–9pm: Sci Fi Night at Biosphere 2

 

In September and October, Biosphere 2 will open to the public at night for the first time ever for Discovery Nights.

 

October 12th, Sci Fi Night, will feature the landmark environmental science fiction film, *Silent Running* (1972) starring Bruce Dern, and discussion to follow, with many other activities for adults and families.

  • 5:00 pm: Doors open. Biosphere 2 facility open to explore. Tables with UA experts on marine life, tree-ring research, reptiles and amphibians, and more. Face-painting, crafts, and other family activities.
  • 6:00 pm: *Silent Running* screening inside the Biosphere 2 facility.
  • 7:30 pm: Roundtable and audience discussion of *Silent Running* and environmental issues with
    • Mitchell Pavao-Zuckerman, Assistant Research Professor, Biosphere 2
    • Tanya Quist, Director, UA Campus Arboretum and Assistant Professor of Plant Sciences at UA
    • Bradley Schauer, Assistant Professor of Film Studies at UA
    • Scott Selisker, discussion moderator and Visiting Assistant Professor of English at UA
  • 8:15pm–close: Biosphere 2 still open. Stargazing with the Oro Valley Astronomy Club.
