4th Graders Plant Trees

As part of a grant obtained from the National Geographic Society Education Foundation to learn about the world, students from Blenman Elm Elementary School planted three Eucalyptus papuana (Ghost Gum) trees on the UA Campus.

The students installed three of this species - two at Bear Down Gymnasion and one in front of the Main Library - in December 2003. The students are learning about deserts around the world, the significance of trees on the UA Campus, and the role communities can play in land use planning.

Along with residents involved with the Blenman Elm Neighborhood Association, they are involved with planning for more trees in their neighborhood, and will install one Ghost Gum on their own school property.
