Olive Walk Bench Dedication 2004

One of the prettiest places on the University of Arizona's campus is the shady Green Belt along Park Avenue, with its many conifers and its exotic fruits, nuts and olives.

The Green Belt's north-south pedestrian path is known as 'Olive Walk'. Robert Forbes, the first Director of the UA's Agriculture Experiment Station planted the olives in the 1890s, to test whether they would thrive in the Sonoran Desert.

On September 3, 2004, friends and Campus Arboretum supporters gathered to dedicate 8 benches that will provide shade, lunch-time seating, and a space for quiet contemplation. We thank all the bench donors and the Advisory Board who gave so generously of their time and support.
